us election campaing 2012

Bullish amid a resurgence in his poll numbers in the state and nationwide, Mr Romney attempted to hoist himself above his party rivals by focusing his attacks on the president he said had let down the US.
Speaking in an eastern Iowan city where Mr Obama promised four years ago this week “to repair the nation”, the former Governor of Massachusetts told him: “You have now had your moment. We have seen the results. And now, Mr President, it is our time”.
Mr Romney was introduced by his wife, Ann, who told hundreds of supporters packed into a hotel conference room: “Help is on the way. Mitt is going to win the nomination and then beat Obama”.
From a stage backed by a huge US flag and two mock-classical columns, he repeatedly contrasted himself with his potential general election opponent rather than his Republican competitors, to whom he did not even refer.
“President Obama says that he wants to 'fundamentally transform' America,” Mr Romney said. “I don't want to transform America … I want to restore the founding principles that made America great.”

christmas

Every year more than 400 million people celebrate Xmas around the world -- that makes Xmas one of the world’s biggest religious and commercial festivities. In approximately year 300 A.D., the birthday of Jesus was determined to be on December 25, the day that has been celebrated from then till this very day. The celebration on the 25th of December starts with Christmas Eve, the evening of December 24.
The religious festival is originally a blend of pagan customs. The Romans held a festival on December 25 called Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, i.e. "the birthday of the unconquered sun.". Pagan Scandinavia celebrated a winter festival called Yule, held in late December to early January. However, it is uncertain exactly why December 25 became associated with the birth of Jesus since the Old Testament doesn’t mention a specific date of the event     Christmas is a time for Families, Fun, and Festivities! A time of family gatherings and holiday meals. A time for Santa, stars, and singing carolers. A time for ornaments, gifts, and twinkling lights. Of sleigh rides, hot cocoa, and gingerbread cookies.

the euro crisis

An emergency summit of euro zone leaders last month agreed to let the fund, the European Financial Stability Facility, deploy its money in new ways to fight the crisis. But it did not take a major step for which investors were hoping: give the EFSF more firepower.
Since then, the euro zone's debt problem has become even more worrying, threatening to move beyond small countries such as Greece to engulf large states such as Spain and Italy.
The spread of the Italian 10-year government bond yield over German Bunds jumped to a euro-era high of 3.85 percentage points on Tuesday, a level which, if sustained over the long term, could prevent Italy from borrowing in the markets at affordable rates.
To convince the markets that this will not happen, rich euro zone governments may have no choice but to override opposition among their taxpayers and pledge to contribute to a drastic expansion of the EFSF -- perhaps doubling or tripling it.
"You need to convince the world that Europe is going to sort itself out," said John Fitzgerald of the Economic and Social Research Institute, a Dublin-based think tank.
"A way of saying that is to have the fund so large that it can handle anything that comes its way. It would stop speculation in Spain and Italy," said Fitzgerald, who sits on the board of the Irish central bank.
OPPOSITION
Since the euro zone summit on July 21, Europe's refusal to commit to expanding the EFSF has emerged as a key factor behind the meeting's failure to calm markets, along with slowing global economic growth and doubts that a rescue plan for Greece can cut the country's debt enough to avert a large-scale default.
Opposition to enlarging the EFSF at this time is strong in several key governments. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has not ruled it out, but agreeing to it could damage her support among disgruntled German voters; Berlin does not want to be sucked into pledging ever-growing sums to weak European states.
"Everybody is aware this is a no-go scenario for the Germans, so no one is putting that on the table really," said one euro zone policy maker, who declined to be named. Berlin's scepticism is shared by Finland, Slovakia and the Netherlands.
France has also been opposed, apparently because further commitments to the EFSF could strain the French government's finances. A senior French official played down any need to expand the EFSF, noting that most of it had not yet been tapped.
The mathematics of the EFSF are not reassuring the markets, however. Rough calculations suggest the EFSF, which borrows its funds from the markets backed by guarantees from euro zone states, might conceivably cope with a bailout of Spain but there would be little room for error, while it would not have enough ammunition if Italy needed help.
The EFSF shares the burden of Europe's contribution to bailing out Ireland and Portugal with the European Financial Stabilisation Mechanism, another emergency fund. It is already committed to providing 17.7 billion euros in emergency loans to Ireland and 26 billion to Portugal. In addition, the EFSF will take over the remainder of Europe's contribution to an initial bailout of Greece, which is likely to require 25 billion euros, and it is expected to provide two-thirds of a 109 billion euro second bailout of Greece announced last month.

iranian nuclear programe

Iran has issued an invitation to IAEA inspectors to visit the country, the first such move since the agency published its report on the status of Iran's nuclear program in November. It is difficult to say what will happen next, especially since the international community is split into two opposing camps on this issue. This article will analyze both of them, also taking into account the situation in Tehran.
The West and Israel believe that the Iranian leadership long ago set itself the goal of building nuclear weapons, and so are calling for harsh, crippling sanctions, including an embargo on Iranian oil exports (Iran’s natural gas production is limited) and bank transactions (primarily by its Central Bank), while refusing to take off the table a potential strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities if it continues with its nuclear weapons program.
That scenario might be left to Israel to implement, sparking a regional war with unpredictable consequences.
There is by no means consensus on harsh sanctions against Iran. For example, India, Japan and South Korea need to buy Iranian oil, and Greece does not support the idea of sanctions either, preventing their approval in the EU.

kim jong il's death

The news that the world's last true communist dictator had died was disclosed by a state television announcer on Monday, who said he had suffered a heart attack and passed away at 8.30am Saturday on a moving train during an inspection and 'field guidance' tour around the country. Kim Jong Il had been the clearly designated successor to his father for decades before taking power, while Kim Jong Un was only officially selected in late 2010. But the way in which Kim Jong Il’s death has been handled thus far, as well as China’s continued support, demonstrate the interest that external forces and North Korea’s elites have in keeping the succession in order. The death of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il is raising questions around the region and world as to whether North Korean leadership can smoothly transition to Kim’s son and chosen successor, Kim Jong Un. One concern is that Kim Jong Un, the youngest of Kim Jong Il’s three sons, is thought to be between 27 and 30 years old and has had little formal training or preparation to lead North Korea. Unlike Kim Jong Il, who was the clearly designated successor decades before taking over for his father, North Korean founding President Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Un was only officially designated as his father’s successor at a special conference of the Workers’ Party of Korea in September 2010. And it was only in January 2009 that the younger Kim was purportedly announced by his father to internal North Korean leadership as the chosen next leader.
The impact of succession on North Korea’s stability is significant because the country is not, as some outsiders portray it, a monolithic entity ruled by a single leader. Rather, the recently deceased North Korean leader, like his father before him, maintained rule over North Korea by balancing several different factions within the elite structure: the old guard revolutionary fighters; sons of martyrs; the military, the Workers’ Party of Korea and the Supreme People’s Assembly; various familial connections; and individuals and groups with various economic interests (overt or otherwise). It is with this management of the various personal and group interests among the North Korean elite that incoming leader Kim Jong Un has had little experience.

syria crackdown

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the pre-dawn skirmish in the north-western city of Idlib killed seven soldiers and police officers, as well as five anti-government army defectors and three civilians.
Security forces also killed a civilian in the southern province of Deraa, six in the central region of Homs and three others in areas near Idlib, the activist group said.
The fighting came a day after the UN's human rights chief called on the international community to protect Syrian civilians.
Navi Pillay, the UN high commissioner for human rights, told an emergency meeting of the UN human rights council in Geneva: "In light of the manifest failure of the Syrian authorities to protect their citizens, the international community needs to take urgent and effective measures to protect the Syrian people."
More than 4,000 people have been killed since the pro-democracy uprising against President Bashar al-Assad's hardline regime began in mid-March.
November was the deadliest month of the uprising so far, with at least 950 killed in violent clashes between security forces and opposition groups.
